The Extended Instruction Program develops and coordinates off-campus sites to promote LBCC instructional offerings at community sites. The office of Extended Instruction is responsible for recruiting and developing sites as well as preparing all contracts, permits and leases for these sites.
The Office provides a centralized, administrative function to manage all aspects of offering courses off-campus working closely with academic departments, faculty, staff and administrative offices to deliver instruction at area sites. Staff generates class schedules and room assignments at the sites and provides ongoing support to faculty and students to promote seamless education that offers the same quality of instruction as traditional on campus courses. The creation of a web site for Extended Instructions facilitates communication and information on the various sites as well as keeping a link to semester offerings. The schedule of classes similarly features extended instruction offerings.
EI represents a model example of collaboration and working together with academic departments and administrative offices to bring our courses into the community. The reciprocal relationship between faculty and the EI staff help us to deliver off campus environments as a resource to the college for new enrollment possibilities and for promoting the college and our courses more broadly throughout the community.
The Extended Instruction program has been at the forefront of coordinating efforts to bring LBCC classes into the community. The onslaught of construction projects throughout both campuses makes very attractive the relocation of course offerings to community sites. We anticipate growth in site development throughout the community during the next few years.
There has also been a trend from the Long Beach Unified School District to offer some sites, through mutual arrangement with our faculty and administration, at no cost. Cabrillo, Wilson and Poly High Schools are examples of this new trend. Processing of permits now satisfies previously cost-bound commitments.
